Current Volunteer Opportunities

We currently have opportunities for volunteers in our direct service, program engagement, and special projects areas.

Direct Service

SafeLink Hotline Volunteer

SafeLink, our statewide domestic violence hotline, receives almost 30,000 calls a year. SafeLink volunteers will work alongside SafeLink Advocates to provide over-the-phone advocacy to hotline callers, including supportive listening, safety planning, and crisis intervention. SafeLink is often the first point of contact for a domestic violence survivor to Casa Myrna. Volunteers play a vital role in responding with care and compassion and providing critical resources.

Shifts available: Days, evenings, and weekends

Residential Support Volunteer

Residential Support volunteers play an integral role in supporting residential staff in the provision of advocacy services to the families living in Casa Myrna’s residential programs. Volunteers will assist on a variety of tasks, including the day-to-day program maintenance, providing developmentally appropriate childcare, and ensuring that Casa Myrna families are able to access the necessary services and resources they need.

Shifts available: Days, evenings, and weekends

Requirements

  • All direct service volunteers are required to complete Casa Myrna’s 35-hour comprehensive domestic violence training (offered in the fall and spring)
  • Commitment of at least one year of volunteer service
  • Background check
  • Attendance of regularly scheduled supervision and other department meetings
  • Adherence to all department policies and procedures
  • All Residential Support volunteers will need to complete First Aid and CPR certification

Program Engagement

Program Engagement Volunteers have an opportunity to be involved in a variety of activities with Casa Myrna program participants and their children. These volunteers help enrich our families’ lives by recognizing milestones during the year, teaching new skills and perspectives, and providing vital food, clothing, and household items to meet survivors’ ongoing basic needs. Volunteers participate in ongoing programs such as:

  • Engaging with a residential program and developing ties with families over the course of a year by providing gifts for special occasions, including Christmas or other religious holidays, Mother’s Day, back to school, and graduations
  • Hosting an event or a celebration for Casa Myrna residents and their children
  • Providing workshops or facilitating classes at our residential programs
  • Adopting our Food Pantry or our Guest Resource Center

Shifts available: Flexible

Requirements

  • Attend an orientation at Casa Myrna programs
  • Background check
  • Commitment of at least one year of service from individuals or groups who are adopting a program

Special Projects

Special Projects Volunteers work on a variety of projects designed to match volunteers’ skill sets with Casa Myrna’s programmatic needs. These volunteers respond to the ongoing needs that arise in our shelters or our overall organization. This work is critical to support our programs and promote both Casa Myrna and the issue of domestic violence more broadly.

Examples of special projects include:

  • Helping organize/clean our shelters, including seasonal yard work or building projects
  • Providing administrative support
  • Sharing your creativity and skill to help support our website or materials
  • Assisting with an outreach project or event
  • Hosting a fundraising event at your home, office, or other location. Our Development staff will work closely with you to plan all details of the event to ensure a successful event to cultivate donors, educate guests about domestic violence, and raise critical funds for Casa Myrna.

Requirements for the Special Projects Volunteers will depend on the nature and length of the project.

Casa Myrna welcomes groups of volunteers who are looking to engage in a “day of service” with one of our programs. All group and corporate volunteers are invited to fill out the Group Volunteer Application

Casa Myrna values all those who support our mission as we support those impacted by domestic violence. This includes our tremendous volunteers who have donated time, energy and so much more over the years.  As an organization that relies on not only in-kind support from volunteers, but also donations from various constituents, Casa Myrna respectfully requests our corporate volunteer friends consider a donation with each volunteer engagement.  These funds will go a long way towards helping us provide ongoing support to our participants and their families.  Questions can be addressed to Paola Rosario-Mateo, our Volunteer & Events Officer, pmateo@casamyrna.org.  Thank you!
